October 18, 2010: First Haircut!

A few days ago, Nich and I both sadly agreed that Oliver was in need of a haircut! No amount of conditioner and brushing could keep his pretty blond locks from getting scraggly and haywire anymore! Wet, the back of his head was all curls, but once it dried it would be a mix of straight and wavy, and just out of control...a little mullet-looking as well. It is the last "baby" part of him, so he is officially a boy. Not a baby, but a toddler. Why is this act the cross-over? He doesn't speak yet and he's still in diapers, but he runs, dances, yells, and cracks jokes! And now has short hair. It's cute, even if I say so myself, and I'm glad I can style it again instead of it being all over the place...as much as one can "style" a 14 month old's hair. And, he was AWESOME through it and liked seeing the collection of 2-3 inch hair in the little zip-lock bag!

Yes, I'm keeping his hair...I still have 3 or 4 of my braids that were cut off from various childhood haircuts, and you can see how my hair slowly got darker and darker. It's cool!

I also have tiny 1/4 inch hair from Julian's head. His was so dark in comparison! But Oliver was born with brown hair that was all replaced with a strawberry golden color. When he's all grown up, I'm not sure he'll appreciate his baby hair as much as I like my braids, but that's ok...I will :)

Papabear's Garden

Both of Oliver's grandparents have amazing green-thumbs. Anything they decide to grow, they can. And it always looks so amazing. Beautiful. Everything looks so accidental, like it's been happily growing there forever.
I want a garden like that.

I think in our next house, instead of a painting party where we repaint the whole house, we'll have a garden party. Maybe even the type where everyone wears an amazing, fancy, brimmed hat, and cute little cucumber sandwiches are served with tiny rose-shaped teacups. Then we'll all have to transform the yards into an oasis of luscious greenery woven with splashes of color.

But I have to have a Magnolia tree in the front...giant, with giant, delicious, white flowers. And a stone bench. Heavy. Stone. Inviting.

Nativity Logo

I was asked to create a black and white Nativity logo with the theme "O Holy Night," and I came up with a few different ones. I'm having trouble deciding what I like so I'm putting them out there for some hopefully constructive criticism. It's supposed to be simple, and the black and white can be reversed (black background, white lines, like having the figures in a solid black manger shape, or star, or something), and a star can be added to any of them. This is the order I drew them in, and if nothing else, I find it interesting how my style changes from traditional, to minimalist, then back to traditional with a minimalist flair. Fun, huh? Ha ha ha! I'm going to submit my final pictures later on this week. (It's for church and they've got a few other people designing logos too, so chances are they'll pick someone with far superior skills and creativity, but here's what the Nativity in my brain looks like)

Traditional Nativity:

Line Drawing, Nativity

Line Drawing 2, Nativity

Heart-Shaped Nativity

Heart Shaped Nativity 2

Layered Nativity
(I'm not a huge fan of this one since I feel like I've seen it everywhere even though I like the way it looks, it seems so common)

Gammy and Papabear's House

I need to make sure I always have my camera to capture these beautiful moments!
